Who are we?

Families For Children Zambia was set up by a small group of Zambian people in 1997, with help and support from sponsors in the UK and Finland. The organisation in the UK now consists of a network of supporters who offer their advice, expertise, time and commitment in many different ways.

  • Members of the group visit Zambia regularly and work with the local staff and volunteers.
  • We send virtually all our funds directly to the projects in Zambia, to educate, feed and clothe the children, to pay the staff and to support the carers. There are no paid staff in the UK.
  • We offer low-key support where it is most needed, while encouraging our Zambian partners to become self-sustaining.
  • We maintain children with their families, not in orphanages, supporting and building on the networks that already exist.
  • The strength of the projects is in the commitment given by local people and volunteers by way of time, skills and hard work

We became a registered charity (no. 1098258) in June 2003.

The projects

With so many issues it is easy to be overwhelmed, so we started by concentrating on smaller projects, with a view to helping them to become self-sustaining in a few years. This will allow us to help more projects as time goes on.

How you can help

Much of our money is raised through people making monthly donations. We also have a huge range of fundraising initiatives - from Taste Of Africa theme nights to knitting groups.
