Esther's story

Esther on her graduation, a very proud day

Ester was brought up in Misisi, a large township in Lusaka and she was orphaned while still quite young and brought up by her older siblings. It was tough just to survive in Misisi, and life was very difficult, but Ester worked hard at school and passed her final exams with flying colours.

She was introduced to us by a Zambian colleague, who had known her family for several years and we were impressed by her intelligence and her tremendous determination to succeed and to go to college. With our support, Ester was accepted at the University of Zambia to do a degree in Education and for 4 years she worked very hard, under difficult circumstances, as most of the students there were from much more privileged backgrounds.

In 2009  we were very proud when Ester graduated from the University with very good degree in Education and since then she has obtained a teaching job and also works part time for FFCZ, helping to support and advise the secondary school students who are sponsored by our projects in Zambia. Her example is an inspiration for them and she can readily understand and help with the special problems they have. We are proud of what Ester has achieved and so pleased that we have been able to help and support her.  In 2010 Esther was awarded a special prize by the Zambian Ministry of Education for the best female student graduating in Education.  She remains a shining example of what young people can achieve when given an opportunity.

A few years ago Esther did a short video clip for us and you can see her speak for herself on the Youtube link on the 'what we do'page.
