How To Help

We send virtually all our funds directly to the projects in Zambia and have no paid staff in the UK. Much of our fundraising comes from people making regular donations. We've found that a little goes a long way, but every contribution makes a big difference to what we are able to do.

How much do things cost?

A few examples...

  • £35 pays a junior (unqualified) teacher's salary for a month.
  • £35 pays a senior teacher's (qualified) salary for a month. There are 6 teachers in Kantolomba.
  • £10 a month provides basic food, salt and soap for one of the most needy households - usually child-headed households.
  • £10 school shoes for one child.
  • £10 pays for a child to attend secondary school for a month and includes: school fees, books, uniform and stationery.

Regular individual donations are the lifeblood of the organisation. They enable us to pledge monthly support to our projects in Zambia; this allows them to plan realistic objectives and to meet their commitments to children, carers and paid staff.

Our fundraising activities

From raffles to rowing teams, our activities range from the very small to bigger events and have taken place in communities across the UK and even in the USA. They have all made a difference to the projects in Zambia. These are just a few of the events:

Taste of Africa night: An annual social evening with an African theme that offer participants everything from an African meal to Zambian crafts to buy, along with African drumming demonstrations and a choir singing African songs. It takes place every January/February.

Gift card scheme: Don't know what to buy that special someone who has everything? Why not make a donation to the charity instead. They will receive one of our special picture cards stating what the donation will provide for one of the communities we support in Zambia, be it new shoes for a child or school meals.
Email enquiries@ffczambia.org.uk for more information.

Barbeques and cream tea afternoons: Held in the gardens of supporters in Devon, these events have raised the profile of the project, as well as being very enjoyable. We always make sure that information, leaflets and photos are available at these functions.

Soup, bread and cheese lunches: These have been popular and inexpensive to organise.

Garden party: In Wootton Bassett in Wiltshire, with games and pony rides for children was particularly successful in raising funds and proved very popular.

Christmas and birthday presents: Some individual supporters have asked for donations to the charity instead of presents from their families and friends.

Christmas carol concert: An evening carol concert in the garden of a supporter in Cheshire. It raised funds and increased awareness of the project's work. As a direct result of the carol sing evening, an infant school in Cheshire donated the proceeds of the collection from its Christmas concert to the charity.

Knitting groups: a social knitting group in Wiltshire, has made items such as soft toys, which have been taken to Zambia, and the group regularly donates the proceeds of its monthly meetings to the charity. Meanwhile, blanket squares were knitted and donated by elderly people in Bishopsteignton.

Fundraising party: This was held by one of our donors in Los Angeles, USA. It raised over ?1000 for the charity.

Charity row: There have been two very successful fundraising events from the River Teign Rowing club, veteran's section, who completed a 18-mile sponsored row from Brixham to Shaldon by sea in July 2005 and raised £5,000. We repeated the event in July 2006.

Marathon run: Several people have run the London Marathon in aid of FFCZ. If you wish to collect sponsors for a marathon or long-distance run, email donations@ffczambia.org.uk We would be very grateful!

Sponsorship of teaching student: A group of the charity's supporters has agreed to sponsor a young woman from Misisi township in Lusaka through her teaching degree at University of Zambia

If you want to hold a fundraising event, nomatter how large or small, email fundraising@ffczambia.org.uk.
